"It came down to 200 metres, maybe 150! So it's obviously a big disappointment, because I was so close to the finish and there was victory at stake, as well as the yellow jersey. All the same, my legs are still there, so I'm going to try again during the week. It was a great breakaway and we knew there was a small chance. It's also encouraging for the time trial on Wednesday, so I hope I can go out and get a good result."
