Derek Gee: “By far the biggest thing I’ve done in my career”

“It’s pretty special, it’s by far the biggest thing I’ve done in my career. I’m going to take it for what it is,  a massive win. I can’ t express how happy I am. A big part of it is the team. Krists gave it a shot with 1 km to go and when he came back, the boys behind screamed you’ve got to give it a crack even if you can’t make it. And it paid off today.

I’m lucky the way it played out in the finish because had it been longer, Romain Gregoire would have gone past me. I had flashbacks as the line was nearing and waiting for just one guy to come around me. I was definitely hoping to back up all those second places. But it’s a big one.

We were all in for Dylan Teuns but he made the call in the final climb, he just said boys, if you have the legs, go for it.”
