Remco Evenepoel: “Not good enough yet to fight with the best”

"The pain was not so much that the suffering was affecting my performance. It was quite a good day with my knee, I was just struggling with my shape. It is not good enough to compete with the best. But that’s why I’m here, just fighting for every stage and trying to suffer as much as possible.  

The goal of this week was to improve my shape. I’m the type of guy than can go deeper in a race than in training and I want to end this race with some good efforts and feelings. Primoz is still better than me. I think the biggest problem is that I can ride fast for a long time but when you go on the limit, it’s the point that I’m struggling with here.

Now I’m looking to ride at a very high pace and try to go on the limit again and again to get the shape ready for the Tour. In the last kilometre, I could accelerate quite a bit, and it made me happy. I will just need to fight for the next few days."
